On January 6, 2021, groups of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an effort to block Joe Biden’s official win as the new president of the United States. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of citizens that arrived at the Capitol to form a riot, eventually breaking in and storming security personnel that attempted to hold the riot back.
The repercussions of the raid were detrimental. The mob ended up harming multiple security personnel as well as eventually killing Officer Brian D. Sicknick in the aftermath of the mob raid on the Capitol. An estimated amount of 50 people have been arrested due to the raid, many of which who stole valuable and historical Capitol property. Smoke arose as there was tear gas being deployed as well as pepper spray as the police attempted to hold back a raging crowd of Trump supporters. As the riot raged on, America watched the chaos unfold, and Americans have been shocked by the attempt on the Capitol.

There was an overall negative connotation towards the thoughts on the capitol riot. Eunice Kim, a junior at Cypress High School, stated, “The riots at the capitol were disgraceful. Breaching, stealing, and destroying government property was in no way justified. The National Guard shouldn’t have waited until the rioters breached the capitol, they should’ve been proactive and stood on the steps to protect. Also, Trump should’ve maintained the same energy that he showed towards BLM rioters six months ago. Overall, an embarrassing day to be an American.”
Moreover, there are others that have advocated for better precautionary measures and attacking the riot at its source. Sean Son, a sophomore at Troy High School, stated, “I think it was not necessary for people to storm the Capitol because it caused a large amount of harm with injuries and stolen documents. The Capitol could have taken extra precautions against them by having more forces to try and suppress the riot, or trying to stop the riot from its source.”
It is evident that action must be taken in order to resolve the crisis of the people. Whether it is the insufficient police force, radical politicians, or radical supporters that commit to unprecedented actions, there must be a solution. As such, the current president has put no notice or prevention of the attacks and the signs of the upcoming raid, giving a clear indication that the politicians, or in this case the president, should take action and put himself towards the initiative.
